Having a problem with the software - post here!
We've been using some of the 2010 census data (ACS5,SF1) by calling it using JSONP. After several months of functioning fine, it is throwing an error today. My code hasn't changed, is something broken on your end?
I get an error when I try to return ACS5 Median Age data for places. The same query (URL) works for counties.
http://api.census.gov/data/2011/acs5?key=MyKey&get=B01002_001E,B01002_001M,NAME&for=county:*&in=state:02
When I query the following: http://api.census.gov/data/2010/acs5?key=MY_KEY_HERE&get=B19113_001E,NAME&for=tract:*&in=county:31,state:27 I receive the following: "There was an error while running your query. We've logged the error and we'll correct it ASAP. Sorry for the inconvenience." Any idea what's up with that? Any idea what's up with that? (I am working on my acs.R package -- see http://eglenn.scripts.mit.edu/citystate/2013/02/major-improvements-to-acs-r-sneak-peak-at-version-1-0/ -- and this bug causes the automated downloading to crash when this result comes up.)

Query string #1 works like a charm and returns me data. Query string #2 gives me the exception "There was an error while running your query. We've logged the error and we'll correct it ASAP. Sorry for the inconvenience." Finally, for Query string #3, I got the error ""error: error: unknown variable 'NAME'"
These query strings were copied and pasted directly into the browsers url box. Interestingly, when I removed from Query string #3 the "NAME" token, I did get a result set, but data was lacking in one of the fields. A partial sample of the result set:

You will notice that the first column is blank. Is there something I'm missing?

Some of the data dictionary reference names are not being recognized by the service.
error: error: unknown variable 'P0280001'

This error has been resolved. There was a small configuration reversion which caused some summary levels to fail.
These summary levels have been re-added, and are functioning properly
I've had an API key for weeks and just got back to my project after doing some other work. I get this error when I make a query that used to work:
"A valid key must be included with each data API request.
You included a key with this request, however, it is not valid.
Please check your key and try again.'
Any thoughts?
Over the last two days, I submitted a request for an Census API key at
http://www.census.gov/developers/tos/key_request.html
The website says to expect an email after a few minutes, but I've never received any email about how to activate an API key. (Yes, I've checked my spam folder.)
I can't seem to get more than four variables to return. I can't seem to get more than four variables to return.
When I run this query:
http://api.census.gov/data/2010/acs5?key={key}&get=B08101_017E,B08101_017M,B08101_025E,B08101_025M,B08101_033E,B08101_033M,B08101_041E,B08101_041M&for=tract:*&in=state:41+county:005
I get an error like this:
error: error: unknown variable 'B08101_033E,B08101_033M,B08101_041E,B08101_041M'
When I run the query with only the first four variables (B08101_017E,B08101_017M,B08101_025E,B08101_025M) it works!
When I run the query with the LAST four variables (B08101_033E,B08101_033M,B08101_041E,B08101_041M) it works.
If I switch the order of the variables, it always errors out with the last four variables being "unknown"
Is this a known problem? I saw somewhere else on the discussion board where someone mentioned using nine variables...

Getting a HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error when running the following request:

Just following the example from http://www.census.gov/developers/data/geography_list_acs5.html for summary level 280.
Earlier today (08/06) the performance was ok, requests took less than .5 seconds to return. Later in the day, around 5 PM the requests started taking over 60 seconds, and some times they were taking over 10 minutes to return. Are the frequency of requests monitored for each key?
The frequency of requests for each key needs to be monitored, and a quota for each key needs to be determined based on the server's capacity. With a quota on the frequency of the requests, you will be able to keep users from overwhelming the system.
With the current performance of this service, it is not usable.

If I run the same query but just use the census tract, it works, but if possible I would like to be able to be as specific as the tract blocks. Is there any workaround for this/will it be fixed soon?

In all of the "sex by age" sets the "85 years and over" label is duplicated for female. I think the first instance is actually just "female".

Note that the order of the variable names and the order of the values do NOT correspond. The block group ID (1) is in the first field. After some playing around I noticed this happens when I ask for 4 variables AND the name. When I ask for less than 4 variables or don't ask for the name the blockgroup-id is correctly in the last field.

I have an API request where the get argument that works is "P0030001,P0030002,P0030003,P0030004". However, I wanted to get all available names in that concept, which in total is a list of 8 elements "P0030001,P0030002,P0030003,...P0030008".
This request fails with error "unknown variable 'P0030005,P0030006,P0030007,P0030008"
Is there a limit on the length for the GET argument?
