This app uses the American Community Survey data to provide users with a quick overview of the demographics, social, economic, and housing statistics of the geographic area that a user is passing through. The application uses a mobile phone’s GPS to determine the user’s geographic location and displays data based on the location. The application would display facts about the community from the Community Facts pages ...more »
I am looking at the examples of Request URL examples. I am wondering if the Variables follow any structure and if so were I can learn about it. In another words, can those variables be interpreted to what data is requested? If so, is there a document that describe it? Are the letters in the front has any significance/rules, and are the following digits follow any rules? P012D007, B02001_001E, PCT012A015 etc.... ...more »
API keys are a barrier to entry, and are somewhat pointless for web apps where anyone can view source and grab a key
Working with the Puget Sound Regional Council, I've modified my acs package for R to allow users to download data directly from the Census ACS API. See http://eglenn.scripts.mit.edu/citystate/2013/02/major-improvements-to-acs-r-sneak-peak-at-version-1-0/ for more info and user guide. Features and improvements include: * The package is now capable of downloading data directly from the new Census American Community ...more »
Thanks to everyone for your use of our API service. To help us as we move forward, please provide any feedback you have, for example Census Bureau datasets would you like to see added, suggestions for needed documentation, or other comments.
just wanted show off my usage of the Census API.. I am using the census data to show off surrounding block census data around each address on real estate listings. Pretty cool. Thanks for Census Developer API for doing such a great job to make this possible. Check it out:
Hello I am new to getting data from the Census. Could use some help. I have now all the states register voters. Now I need to pull register voters for all US counties for an app I am building
This is just something I wanted to be able to visualize for my own entertainment/enlightenment... but I think it turned out pretty well. Still working on showing the time series of contributions in a given ZIP.
I have an API request where the get argument that works is "P0030001,P0030002,P0030003,P0030004". However, I wanted to get all available names in that concept, which in total is a list of 8 elements "P0030001,P0030002,P0030003,...P0030008".
This request fails with error "unknown variable 'P0030005,P0030006,P0030007,P0030008"
Is there a limit on the length for the GET argument?
Hi Everyone, First off, I want to congratulate you on putting together such a comprehensive and straightforward set of APIs. This is really excellent work, and it's a great way of making Census Bureau data more accessible. However, in integrating with the Geocoding Services API, I seem to have noticed a bit of an issue: when looking up Geographies, the results are inconsistent. In particular, if I execute an identical ...more »
Can I use this API to create an easy way for users on my website to get their census tract number without using a map? I simply want the users to input their residential address into text fields. Hopefully this API will spit out their 10 digit census tract number after input. I would prefer NOT to redirect applicants to a 3rd party site. I ultimately want to use the census tract number from the API to reconcile it with ...more »
This ended up being much longer then I intended so I posted it as a gist over here https://gist.github.com/calvinmetcalf/5721819
Don't be clever, take the conventions of other popular rest APIs as a guide, it's still better then 90% of government.
Is there any support (yet?) for congressional districts and other lower-level geographies in the ACS API? States and counties work fine, but I run into problems as soon as I start to go a little deeper into the hierarchy. Are most of these other area types only supported for the SF1 data?
Is there any API which can be used to find average income of people in an area by entering the zip code?
This is a request to simplify the school district API call structures to have only one replacing the three separate calls for unified, secondary and elementary. The school district codes are unique within state irrespective of the type (U, S, E). Most users are interested in a few districts by name/id, all districts in a state/region or all districts in the U.S. Also, just having the state+district code provides ...more »
