Polygon, block group and census data

I would like to get census block group data for various groups that overlap with a polygon map overlay. If I can get the block groups and need say the number of Chinese of ages 18 to 34 in those block groups then how do I do a JavaScript query to get them?

Population for each of all places within a particular county

Via API queries I have easily obtained all county populations within a state, and all places populations within a state. Is there a way to obtain population for each place in a particular county? The main problem is that I want to know all of the places that are contained in one particular county. A secondary special case issue is the situation where a place (incorporated or CDP) may cross a county boundary... thus making... more »

Finding Geographies

I'm still a newbie and am trying to find a way to pull geographies via the API.

For example, is there a way for our application to only store state names or FIPS codes, then pull all other possible geographies via the API? Or, do we need to store all the needed geographies on our end?

COUNTY lookup by valid street address

I am looking for a solid WebService API method that will allow me to submit an http request with a pre-validated US Street/City/State/Zip address and return COUNTY in xml or json about 200 times per work day.It looks like the US Census API may do it? Is the data current enough? What might a request look like? Many thanks in advance.

How to get geocoordinates of a certain block?

I'm having trouble getting the geo-boundaries of a specific block.

For example, let's say I have the following info:

state: 53

county: 033

tract: 000100

block: 1006

How can I know where this specific block is? In other words, how do I get the geo-boundaries of this specific block so that I can map this block with latitude, longitude coordinates?

Thanks!

ACS 2013 metro division

An ACS 2013 CBSA "name" in the API call is "for=metropolitan+statistical+area/micropolitan+statistical+area"

That does not work for summary level 314.

What is the spelling of the "name" for a metropolitan division? Guessing,

"for=metropolitan+division" does not work.

Can you please provide a full sample? complete with a MD code.

Thank you.

JSONP Callback

The jsonp callback should be 'callback' not 'jsonp' there is no reason you can't have both, but almost every single site that uses jsonp uses callback as the parameter, using something weird prevents people from easily making apps.

API extension for query across hierarchy

Hi All, The API has incredible functionality for query/results within the nested US Census Bureau Geography (e.g. getting data for all the tracts in a county or all the block groups within a track). However, it does not appear to support queries that run across the same geography very well. For instance It does not appear to allow me to query the same parameter (e.g. race) in Tract A within County B and Tract C... more »

Formatting of SF1 Table IDs?

I'm trying to look at tables from the SF1 and I've noticed they don't seem to follow a consistent format. The ACS ID consistently use tableID-underscore-variable number. For SF1 variables I was under the impression that it worked similarly, because in the examples, the query for total population (for which the table ID is 'P001') uses the ID 'P0010001' or what I thought was Table P001 plus cell ID 0001. However I'm trying... more »

API Variable Question for ACS2011 5 Year

Preface: New to API Calls & Census Data (not sure the proper Campaign to post on) Curious, how can I more efficiently pull data through the API without having to specify each individual Unique ID (found in the ACS2011_5-Year_TableShells.xls file)? If I wanted to pull all data for Table ID: B01001 what would my {&get=} be? Currently, I am using each individual Unique ID as so: http://api.census.gov/data/2011/acs5?{key}&get=B01001_001E,B01001_002E,B01001_003E,B01001_004E,B01001_005E,B01001_006E,B01001_007E,B01001_008E,B01001_009E,B01001_010E,NAME&for=state:06... more »

Fields Missing from API

I can't find the following fields in the SF1 API:

P0020002 Total Urban Persons

P0020003 Total Rural Persons

Are only a subset of fields availible through this API?

Also it appears that I can only request up to 5 fields (seperated by commas) through the URL string. Is there a way to query more?
