DATE variable in Population Estimates API

Is there any documentation for interpreting the values returned in the DATE variable in the population estimates API?

For example, http://api.census.gov/data/2013/pep/natstprc?get=POP,DATE&for=state:25&key=xxxxx returns numerically coded data values (e.g., "1", "6"). I can see by the data that 6 = 2013 but would love to see official documentation somewhere.

Thanks!

2000 County Subdivision SF1 and SF3

We are looking to pull county subdivision data for 2008-12, 2010 and 2000. Unfortunately, unlike the other two, 2000 county subdivision geography is not available for SF1 or SF3. We would love to have this data be made available through the API. http://api.census.gov/data/2000/sf1/geo.html http://api.census.gov/data/2000/sf3/geo.html Looking to have added: Summary Level:060 state-county-county subdivision Thanks, ...more »

Missing Variables for 1990 "travel time" sf3

On the 1990 census sf3 variable call, two time frames (20 to 24 and 35 to 39) are missing from "travel time to work". The variable codes increment from P0500001 (TRAVEL TIME[13] Less than 5 minutes) to P0500013 (TRAVEL TIME[13] Worked at home), with P0500005 and P0500008 missing - presumably the missing time frame variables. Using these in the data call results in an 'unknown variable' error. Is this a bug and the data ...more »

General design and specific API questions

Hello everyone, This is a question requiring some general direction and also some technical help: I would like to automatically (daily, weekly?) upload ACS reports by county (all 3200+) into a database hosted locally. My boss wants it in MS Access (this is not up for debate, I have tried). From MS Access, we'd like to be able to extract the fields we need to populate a .xls file or any other format. Eventually, even ...more »

Latitude/Longitude in PDI

Hi All,

I am trying to call the API for the the geocoder census geographical locations for few addresses I have in my database. I want the longitude/latitude values for each address.I want to call the API through a javascript in an ETL tool. Can anyone suggest method or any useful link for that? It would be a great help.

Thanks!!

Future plans/Roadmap

Is there somewhere that documents the Bureau's future plans/roadmaps for its APIs? We're getting ready to build a major project using the ACS and Population Estimate APIs, and it would be helpful to know if the bureau is committed to updating the API as new data are released. For example, last Sept. it was great to see the 2012 ACS data added to the API as the numbers were released on FactFinder. Can we expect that ...more »

Query help

Hi, I've been working with the following query: http://api.census.gov/data/2012/popproj/pop?get=TOTAL_POP,POP_4,POP_3,POP_2,POP_1,POP_0&ORIGIN=0&RACE=0&SEX=0&YEAR=2012&key= I think it is returning total usa population of age 5 and under for the year 2012. Is there a way to get the same information for each state? In other words is per state information available from popproj/pop? Or do I need to query another data ...more »

API resource not available

I've just started working with the API today. I started by using sample queries such as: http://api.census.gov/data/2012/popproj/pop?get=TOTAL_POP,RACE&SEX=1&YEAR=2012&key= It worked fine earlier today, but now I keep getting the "resource not available" error. EDIT - For clarification, it worked in the AM for a period of about 1 hour. I tried again about 6 hours later, and it didn't work for a period of about 1 hour. ...more »

COUNTY lookup by valid street address

I am looking for a solid WebService API method that will allow me to submit an http request with a pre-validated US Street/City/State/Zip address and return COUNTY in xml or json about 200 times per work day.It looks like the US Census API may do it? Is the data current enough? What might a request look like? Many thanks in advance.

Duplicate (and incorrect) "Female 85 years and older" variable

I'm examining a tract in NYC. I found two different codes (P0120026 and P0120049) whose label and concept match exactly: "label": "Female: !! 85 years and over", "concept": "P12. Sex By Age [49]" Furthermore, they return VASTLY different values. Getting null from ACS block-group query

For ACS data - is there a way to tell which codes are valid for tracts vs block group? Some codes work for both, some return "null" when the block-group level is queried. For example, the following url works for the tract level: http://api.census.gov/data/2010/acs5?key=4be82289939444f20513cd7c3c3eafb42e0d9ccf&get=B06007_003E,NAME&for=tract:*&in=state:08+county:059 But using the same code, it returns null for the ...more »

Commercial/External APIs already interfacing with this data?

Hi, Are there any commercial/free APIs that are available for developers to use that are ALREADY sourcing from the Census.gov datasets? Factual's Geopulse Context was doing so as recently as 2013 but they've deprecated their API. It generated easy to access and useful demographic data from a lat/long and made importing into chart libraries super easy. Anyone know of anything similar? Access Micro-data for Blocks

I'm working on a school project with 2010 Census data. Currently, we are getting tract-level data using codes from http://api.census.gov/data/2010/sf1/variables.json to get data.
