How to get api to do geocoding?

I have used Tele-Atlas/TomTom geocoding service which is now been discontinued. I'm trying to find an alternative that would return most or all of the same variables.

1. How do I get access to the API?

2. How is the security? My data is highly sensitive and I have to be 100% there will be no way the data can be viewed or saved.

3. I have to geocoding around 100,000 addresses. Will this be an issue?

Thank you

API - Pass a point to server return data

Newbie question. What I want to do is given an x, y coordinate, I want to pass it to a Census server and have it return data for the block group it intersects. This is an example of what I would like: http://sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Demographics/ESRI_Census_USA/MapServer/1/query?text=&geometry=-95.8239%2C+36.0729&geometryType=esriGeometryPoint&inSR=&spatialRel=esriSpatialRelIntersects&returnCountOnly=false&returnIdsOnly=false&returnGeometry=true&outFields=*&f=pjson ...more »

Definitions

Hello All, Is there a way to return the label and or concept instead of just the call variable code e.g. Return both DP02_0001E and "HOUSEHOLDS BY TYPE!!Total households" so that the data is easily presented without further manipulation in the application. For example this would be useful in presenting the data in a table, where the table heading would be "HOUSEHOLDS BY TYPE!!Total households" instead of the more ...more »

Finding Geographies

I'm still a newbie and am trying to find a way to pull geographies via the API.

For example, is there a way for our application to only store state names or FIPS codes, then pull all other possible geographies via the API? Or, do we need to store all the needed geographies on our end?

Getting Started Area

Complete Newbie here. Trying to systematically get started. Have looked through the documentation but not exactly sure where to start when it comes to ACS data. Is there a place with all the possible URI's , URL parameters and explanations , so that if I was making a call I could look through a list and easily select the parameters and corresponding values .

Is the population data available for all counties for 2013?

http://api.census.gov/data/2013/acs1/profile?get=DP05_0001E,NAME&for=county:*

While using the link above, I get the data for approx 800 counties, but there are more than 3000 counties in the country. Is the data available for all counties? If yes, how do I get the data?

How to get geocoordinates of a certain block?

I'm having trouble getting the geo-boundaries of a specific block.

For example, let's say I have the following info:

state: 53

county: 033

tract: 000100

block: 1006

How can I know where this specific block is? In other words, how do I get the geo-boundaries of this specific block so that I can map this block with latitude, longitude coordinates?

Thanks!

'Get' variables for Economic Indicators Time Series data

The link at http://api.census.gov/data/eits/eits_program_code_RESCONST.xml provides us with most of the information we need to use the API to access data for Residential Construction in the "Economic Indicators Time Series" data. What appears to be missing are variables for the "get" parameter. Manually downloaded data sets (non-api) do not reveal or hint at any variables that could be used either. So maybe there is ...more »

ACS 2013 metro division

An ACS 2013 CBSA "name" in the API call is "for=metropolitan+statistical+area/micropolitan+statistical+area"

That does not work for summary level 314.

What is the spelling of the "name" for a metropolitan division? Guessing,

"for=metropolitan+division" does not work.

Can you please provide a full sample? complete with a MD code.

Thank you.

Missing Variables

Hi - I'm relatively new to the API, and have been using it to pull several reports. Recently I was asked to find S0802 MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION TO WORK BY SELECTED CHARACTERISTICS . When I look on Fact Finder I can see the variable, however I'm unable to find it via the API (in the variable definition files for ACS). I'm sure I'm missing something basic, so any direction would be much appreciated.

Demographics by zip code

Newbie here. I searched the api documentation and still do not fully understand how to use it.

I would like to find the average house value for a given zip code from the 2010 census data. Possible?

If so, please provide an example URL for 09210.

Can the same call be made for multiple zip codes that make up an area?

Thanks!
