Block Data from ACS

In looking at the geography levels supported by 2012 ACS, I don't see block-level data. See: http://api.census.gov/data/2012/acs5/profile/geography.json I am looking for block data support like this (that I'm using from 2010 decennial survey): { "name": "block", "requires": [ "state", "county", "tract" ] } (http://api.census.gov/data/2010/sf1/geography.json) Is there another/better ...more »

zip code level data from 2000 survey

HI:

I am trying to download zip level data for 2010, 2000 and 1990 census demographic data. I have no problem for 2010 data by using the url:

http://api.census.gov/data/2010/sf1?key=*&get=P001001&for=zip+code+tabulation+area:*&in=state:48

Is there anything similar for 2000 and 1990 data?

Thank you

Improving API documentation

Example of easier to follow API documentation: http://developer.usatoday.com/docs/read/Census Versus no coded variable definitions on the page: https://www.census.gov/developers/data/ All the needed content is in this presentation, but it was not intuitive to click on it since it refers to a specific event: https://www.census.gov/developers/NDoCH_Support_Slides.pdf Maybe rename it "ACS API Handbook"? Obtaining census tract numbers

Can I use this API to create an easy way for users on my website to get their census tract number without using a map? I simply want the users to input their residential address into text fields. Hopefully this API will spit out their 10 digit census tract number after input. I would prefer NOT to redirect applicants to a 3rd party site. I ultimately want to use the census tract number from the API to reconcile it with ...more »

No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the reques

Hi, I had a little app working until just two days ago, when I started receiving a CORS error: "No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource". I tried adding the jsonp callback to no avail. I am able to access the generated url via the browser. What I am doing is generating state options for a select list. The offending function, getStateList(), can be seen at: https://github.com/Code-for-Miami/iam1of.us/blob/master/js/script.js#L97 ...more »

Using Data

All Tracts in a MSA

Is it possible to get all tracts within a MSA, as in (an attempt to get all tracts in the DC metro):

http://api.census.gov/data/2011/acs5?key=mykey&get=B00001_001E&for=tract:*&in=metropolitan+statistical+area/micropolitan+statistical+area:47900

This returns:

"error: unknown/unsupported geography heirarchy"

If not this would be useful!

Using Data

Combining ACS Data with Crime Data

In order to understand how crime or criminal elements are embedded within different communities, it may be useful to combine neighborhood crime data with ACS demographic and housing data. There are hotspots in most cities that could be objectively analyzed to reveal patterns which may be disrupted by governmental policy. That is, if the data clearly points to consistent reliable trends.

Census Data for Federal Grants

Many federal grants require applicants to supply Census data when responding to RFPs. Allow agencies to create a report template in AFF for applicants. This would allow for applicants to enter an address and get centroid data that was predefined by the agency. Applicants could downloaded the table in PDF form efficiently with all the available data the federal agency requires.
