Latitude/Longitude in PDI

Hi All,

I am trying to call the API for the the geocoder census geographical locations for few addresses I have in my database. I want the longitude/latitude values for each address.I want to call the API through a javascript in an ETL tool. Can anyone suggest method or any useful link for that? It would be a great help.

Thanks!!

Getting null from ACS block-group query

For ACS data - is there a way to tell which codes are valid for tracts vs block group? Some codes work for both, some return "null" when the block-group level is queried. For example, the following url works for the tract level: http://api.census.gov/data/2010/acs5?key=4be82289939444f20513cd7c3c3eafb42e0d9ccf&get=B06007_003E,NAME&for=tract:*&in=state:08+county:059 But using the same code, it returns null for the ...more »

Get Lat/Long of Census Tracts

In order to draw a tract polygon, I need a list of lat/longs that define each tract. (For example, a tract that is exactly a square would have four lat/long points that define it.)

Is there an established way to get the lat/long of a census tract?

Access Micro-data for Blocks

I'm working on a school project with 2010 Census data. Currently, we are getting tract-level data using codes from http://api.census.gov/data/2010/sf1/variables.json to get data. For example, to find the white 65-year old males in a county's tracts, we make the API call: http://api.census.gov/data/2010/sf1?key=[key]&get=PCT012I068,NAME&for=tract:*&in=state:08+county:059 However, when making the same call at a block ...more »

All Tracts in a MSA

Is it possible to get all tracts within a MSA, as in (an attempt to get all tracts in the DC metro):

http://api.census.gov/data/2011/acs5?key=mykey&get=B00001_001E&for=tract:*&in=metropolitan+statistical+area/micropolitan+statistical+area:47900

This returns:

"error: unknown/unsupported geography heirarchy"

If not this would be useful!

Combining ACS Data with Crime Data

In order to understand how crime or criminal elements are embedded within different communities, it may be useful to combine neighborhood crime data with ACS demographic and housing data. There are hotspots in most cities that could be objectively analyzed to reveal patterns which may be disrupted by governmental policy. That is, if the data clearly points to consistent reliable trends.

Best practice for census tract level GeoID

I am trying to make tract-level thematic maps for several indicators (e.g. unemployment, median family income etc.). In the KML and SVG files I am using (including that obtained from TIGER) the 11 digit GeoID10 seems to be the best column through which I can merge data pertaining to the census tracts either by using the "GEO.id2" field from ACS data downloaded as CSV from FactFinder or through a concatenation of ...more »
