This app uses the American Community Survey data to provide users with a quick overview of the demographics, social, economic, and housing statistics of the geographic area that a user is passing through. The application uses a mobile phone’s GPS to determine the user’s geographic location and displays data based on the location. The application would display facts about the community from the Community Facts pages ...more »
Hi, I had a little app working until just two days ago, when I started receiving a CORS error: "No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource". I tried adding the jsonp callback to no avail. I am able to access the generated url via the browser. What I am doing is generating state options for a select list. The offending function, getStateList(), can be seen at: https://github.com/Code-for-Miami/iam1of.us/blob/master/js/script.js#L97 ...more »
We identified that the problem was in a configuration that was accidentally released.
The API is once again working as before.
My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
I'd like to use census data to generate a US Population trending App that tracks birth and deaths by city, county, state and nationally by age, race, gender and community or neighborhood. This would be an app that can provide an overview of past trends, policies and their results from census data.

I need to be able to relate a Census Block to it's corresponding FIPS Division and Subdivision and I have not found any data file or reference to help me identify that relationship, can you help?
I have been working on my application and one of the things I would like to do is query the same variable on multiple geographies. For instance, get the total population at the Block Group, Tract, County, State, and Nation.
Right now, it is my understanding that this would represent five different calls to the API.
Can this be done in one call to the API ?

My specific request would be for api access to the statewide non-metropolitan geographic level (need the medians so I can't back into a value). However, I realize this has to be a pretty low priority for most api users. Do the developers have a goal of adding more of these types of geos or should I expect that I'll be going to factfinder for this type of request for years to come? (Extremely happy with the current ...more »

Can I use this API to create an easy way for users on my website to get their census tract number without using a map? I simply want the users to input their residential address into text fields. Hopefully this API will spit out their 10 digit census tract number after input. I would prefer NOT to redirect applicants to a 3rd party site. I ultimately want to use the census tract number from the API to reconcile it with ...more »
When querying the ACS 2008-2012, the State Legislative Districts (at least for Utah) are labeled "2010" when using the API and "2012" when using the FactFinder. It looks like the raw summary file data also says 2010. Using the mapping function on FactFinder for estimates from the most recent 5 year ACS shows current State Legislative districts (effective Jan 1, 2013). This is congruent with what is listed on the first ...more »
