Social Trending App

I'd like to use census data to generate a US Population trending App that tracks birth and deaths by city, county, state and nationally by age, race, gender and community or neighborhood. This would be an app that can provide an overview of past trends, policies and their results from census data.

Bizplanup – Community Profile Tool for Businesses

Create a "community profile" tool that focuses on pulling from multiple data sets and creates a standard report that contains most, but not all, that someone would need for a business plan or marketing plan. The tool would generate a printable report around a custom geography, with the option to download the data behind the profile report. It would be very easy to use, and give the entrepreneur a quick and easy snap... more »

Bizup – Business Data Mashup

Build an app that pulls the most useful variables for businesses from the Census API, with some user customization or drop down menus, and which easily ports into existing commercial software packages. This would allow commercial companies to easily use Census data and mash it up with their data to support new and existing business owners

Neighborhood characterizer

Using Census and other data (crime statistics, etc.), outline neighborhoods that have coherent and unusual characteristics. The idea is to find areas that stand out because they are different from surrounding areas (probably at tract level). For example, you could identify a Hispanic neighborhood, or a poor neighborhood, or an area with very high housing density or lots of elderly. For the disaster recovery planner, this... more »

Interactive Data Aggregation Paradigm

This isn't a specific what but more of a "how" and I'm not going to suggest how it could be addressed nor do I know if it has already been suggested, addressed, or used. I know the Bureau has put out some interesting projects to enhance readability of data. I was wondering if some form of advanced tool-tip mapping could be done on mouse-over. Obviously mouse-over is common but I also know that "within a circle of... more »

Population Pyramid for Zip Code

Hello,

I'm new to using the API and was wondering if you have seen examples of using the API to retrieve data needed to build a population pyramid for population of a zip code.

If there are no examples, I would like to build it with a team and add it to the forum for public use. Let me know if you want to collaborate.

Thanks!

Geography Converter

A liter is 0.264172 gallons. A bit is .125 bytes. Knowing these conversions helps us move between measurements. How about an app that approximately converts geography? A CBSA is equal to a county? I understand converting political to tabulation geographies may be difficult, but anything would help.

Interactive Hierarchy of Census Geographic Entities

The general population is familiar with ZIP codes, county and state boundaries. However, the Census also offers statistics in other useful geographies (e.g., NECTA, County Subdivisin, Tract, etc). But, understanding the hierarchy of Census geographic entities is not intuitive. The Census produced a diagram explaining the levels geography (http://www.census.gov/geo/reference/pdfs/geodiagram.pdf) but more can be done.... more »
