General design and specific API questions

Hello everyone,

This is a question requiring some general direction and also some technical help:

I would like to automatically (daily, weekly?) upload ACS reports by county (all 3200+) into a database hosted locally. My boss wants it in MS Access (this is not up for debate, I have tried).

From MS Access, we'd like to be able to extract the fields we need to populate a .xls file or any other format. Eventually, even... more »

How to decode the Variables?

I am looking at the examples of Request URL examples. I am wondering if the Variables follow any structure and if so were I can learn about it.

In another words, can those variables be interpreted to what data is requested? If so, is there a document that describe it?

Are the letters in the front has any significance/rules, and are the following digits follow any rules?

P012D007, B02001_001E, PCT012A015 etc....... more »

High Risk/Vulnerable Individuals

To help local governments better plan for disaster recovery for their residents, it would helpful to know which areas contained high risk/vulnerable individuals. These individuals might include the elderly, small children, disabled individuals, those who are language isolated, and those who do not have access to a vehicle. Creation of heat maps, or other visualizations of these populations can help emergency management... more »

Not receiving any email in response to api key request

Over the last two days, I submitted a request for an Census API key at

http://www.census.gov/developers/tos/key_request.html

The website says to expect an email after a few minutes, but I've never received any email about how to activate an API key. (Yes, I've checked my spam folder.)

"Get" argument for API call: is there a length limitation?

I have an API request where the get argument that works is "P0030001,P0030002,P0030003,P0030004". However, I wanted to get all available names in that concept, which in total is a list of 8 elements "P0030001,P0030002,P0030003,...P0030008".

This request fails with error "unknown variable 'P0030005,P0030006,P0030007,P0030008"

Is there a limit on the length for the GET argument?

Inconsistent Output in Geocoding Services API?

Hi Everyone,

First off, I want to congratulate you on putting together such a comprehensive and straightforward set of APIs. This is really excellent work, and it's a great way of making Census Bureau data more accessible.

However, in integrating with the Geocoding Services API, I seem to have noticed a bit of an issue: when looking up Geographies, the results are inconsistent. In particular, if I execute an identical... more »

API extension for query across hierarchy

Hi All,

The API has incredible functionality for query/results within the nested US Census Bureau Geography (e.g. getting data for all the tracts in a county or all the block groups within a track).

However, it does not appear to support queries that run across the same geography very well.

For instance It does not appear to allow me to query the same parameter (e.g. race) in Tract A within County B and Tract C... more »

Data Profile API Incorrect for DP02_0024PE

The ACS 5 Year API is returning incorrect data for the DP02_0024PE variable. It should be returning a percent value but it is returning a sum.

Should be %:

http://api.census.gov/data/2013/acs5/profile?get=NAME,DP02_0024PE&for=state:01

It is returning same as this:

http://api.census.gov/data/2013/acs5/profile?get=NAME,DP02_0024E&for=state:01

Demographics by zip code

Newbie here. I searched the api documentation and still do not fully understand how to use it.

I would like to find the average house value for a given zip code from the 2010 census data. Possible?

If so, please provide an example URL for 09210.

Can the same call be made for multiple zip codes that make up an area?

Thanks!
